Attendance Policy 2026-27

All training classes, rehearsals and performances are mandatory. Required training classes are listed in the Company Packet. Every member counts at every performance. Failure to participate at any required events may lead to removal from the Shining Starz Dance Company and/or specific Competition Pieces. Sapphire/Elite Company Members are allowed no more than two (2) absences per class per semester. Emerald Company Members are allowed no more than three (3) absences per class per semester. A semester is defined from September-December and January- May. If you miss any class in the week before a performance or are not prepared for a performance due to an absence, your ability to perform with the group is up to the discretion of your teacher and Mr. and Mrs. Krikac. If more than the allotted classes are missed in a semester (3 or more for Sapphire/Elite and 4 or more for Emerald), the dancer will be charged for a private lesson and a make up time will be scheduled. If those classes are missed within a 4 week period, irrespective of illness, graded school events, or scheduled absences, a private lesson may be required. All absences carry the same weight no matter the reason, as the student is still missing valuable training time.

*Continued tardiness will also be subject to a required private makeup lesson, charged to your student’s account. We make every effort to accommodate in scheduling for training and rehearsal times so please consider your arrival times when finalizing your company decision. Arriving to class more than 10 minutes late, will be counted as an absence and their participation will be at the discretion of that teacher.

If you plan to miss a class, you must give notice via email at least ONE month in advance. This helps studio staff with lesson planning, special event planning, and much more. Early communication is best in all situations throughout the year.

In the unfortunate event of injury, students will be expected to dress out for class as described in the Company Handbook and still participate to the level allowed by written instructions (email or written doctor's note). Prolonged or frequent injury may result in the need for a paid private lesson to assess overall readiness for Competition and/or Company events.

Attendance is required for the Company Choreography Weeks. Schedule will be released once available but students need to plan to be available throughout the August Month. Company Commitments should take priority over Non-Academic events. Please communicate any and all conflicts to office@shiningstarz.org.
